Don’t Text & Drive; 2021 Minimum Wage Increase; Employers Must Pay Sick Time
Enforcement finally begins for state law that was enacted back in April 2019. Police may now pull you over for using handheld devices while driving. It is ok use your device hands-free. For the first violation, the fine is $75 to $149. Second violation incurs a fee of $150 to $250. You may still use a handheld device to call 911 OR at a stop sign or stoplight.
On New Year’s Day 2021, the statewide minimum wage increased from $12/hour to $12.15/hour.
As of January 1, 2021, employers must pay for sick leave – 40 hours per year if a business has 15 or more employees and 24 hours per year for businesses with less than 15 employees. Sick time may be used for medical care for the employee or employee’s family members.
